CARLY STONG

Owner, Studio Manager, and Instructor
Registered Reiki Teacher and Practitioner

I came to my yoga mat after over 10 years as a C.D.T.A. competitive dancer. After major surgery in 2004 left me unable to resume my journey in the dance world, I landed in a yoga studio in University and continued exploring the art of kinesthetic movement.

My yogic practice quickly partnered with a meaningful relationship to that which was more profound than the shapes I was constructing in my physical body. By nurturing my sensitivities to these deeper, more subtle energies, my life on and off the mat was, and continues to be, transformed through the inquiry of yoga in ways that I could never have anticipated or imagined.

After receiving my Hatha yoga teacher certification I went on to take workshops with such inspirational teachers as Bo Forbes, Tina Veer, Nadine Saxton, and Susi Hately. Later this year, I am excited to undertake Yoga Warriors Teacher Training to provide advance knowledge and practical tools for veterans and current military personnel suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Combat and Operational Stress Reaction.

My teaching style includes traditional yogic philosophy, asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), dharana (concentration) and dhyana (meditation). I teach hatha, yin, restorative, and vinyasa-style classes. I also combined my love of yoga with my love for healing through Reiki touch to develop a style of yoga called Restorative & Reiki (or R&R). Along with these styles, I specialize in teaching yoga for children and teens, seniors, bigger bodies as well as chair/office yoga.

As a yoga teacher, it is my intention to promote an accessible exploration of the spiritual science of yoga regardless of individuals' past experiences, physical constraints, or perceived notions of what 'doing yoga' looks like. Pairing yogic practices with other modalities that I have studied, as well as with my conventional education in Health Studies, Primary/Junior Education, and Holistic Nutrition, I seek to teach skills for holistic wellness - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spirituality.

My dedication is to the expansion of Universal consciousness by allowing all individuals to re-discover and nurture their innate strength, love, balance, and serenity.
